Hang-gliding

Active running take-off, this was why the German Hang-Glider Club (Deutscher Hängegleiter-Verband) advised against hang-gliding for paraplegics.

But it worked after all – with a little improvisation and a bar stool. By way of preparation, two legs were sawed off the barstool and two axes and four wheels were attached to it, in order to enable the glider a horizontal sitting position on the tilted ramp (the one used for take-off).

As we said, some imagination was required.

Off we went to the Tegelberg (Allgäu). There the belt is precisely affixed and then – there you go – onto the stool. After rolling off, the stool is suddenly stopped by a rope so that by sliding down from the seat you can then fly in tandem next to each other.
Thereafter all you have to do is enjoy the fun.

Take in the mountain panorama surrounding Schloss Neuschwanstein. With the aid of two rolls mounted on the so-called triangle, the return trip to reality was also without difficulty.

In the meantime, there are hang-gliding schools that also provide training for physically disabled persons.
